Frequently asked question

Are Lab Grown Diamonds Real Diamonds?

Lab-grown diamonds, also known as man-made or synthetic diamonds, share the same physical, chemical, and optical properties as natural diamonds. This includes:

  • Physical Properties: Both lab-grown and natural diamonds are made of pure carbon atoms arranged in a crystal lattice structure. This gives them the same hardness (10 on the Mohs scale), making them the hardest known material.
  • Chemical Composition: The chemical structure of lab-grown diamonds is identical to that of natural diamonds. They are both composed of pure carbon, with trace elements possibly present in both types, depending on the growth process.
  • Optical Characteristics: The fire (color dispersion), scintillation (flashes of light), and brilliance (overall brightness) of lab-grown diamonds are the same as those of natural diamonds. This means they sparkle in the same way, exhibiting the same qualities when viewed under light.

Lab-grown diamonds are produced in labs using high-pressure high-temperature (HPHT) or chemical vapor deposition (CVD) methods, which replicate the natural conditions that create diamonds deep within the Earth's crust. Due to this, lab-grown diamonds are chemically identical to natural diamonds, and their appearance is indistinguishable to the naked eye.

The only key difference between the two lies in their origin: one is mined from the Earth, and the other is created in a laboratory. However, when it comes to quality, durability, and beauty, they are the same.

Are the Lab Diamonds Certified?

Yes, our lab-grown diamonds are indeed certified by IGI and GIA, just like mined diamonds. This certification ensures that the diamond's quality is properly assessed and verified.

Here's how the certification process works for lab-grown diamonds:

  1. Grading by Independent Labs: Lab-grown diamonds undergo the same grading process as natural diamonds, where they are evaluated based on the "Four Cs": Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat weight. Reputable grading organizations like the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), the International Gemological Institute (IGI) provide these certifications for both natural and lab-grown diamonds.
  2. Inscriptions: To ensure authenticity and traceability, lab-grown diamonds often have a microscopic inscription on their girdle (the outer edge of the diamond) that matches the unique certificate number issued by the grading lab. This inscription is only visible under magnification and serves as proof that the diamond is lab-grown and corresponds to the grading report. The inscription helps distinguish the diamond from natural ones if there's any confusion, even though they have the same physical, chemical, and optical properties.
  3. Transparency: The certification and inscription process offers a high level of transparency, allowing buyers to verify the diamond’s qualities and origins. It provides confidence in the diamond's authenticity and guarantees that the diamond meets the standards set by the grading lab.

This transparency and traceability are key advantages of lab-grown diamonds, especially for buyers who value ethical sourcing, environmental sustainability, and assurance of quality.
